We are back in Dar es Salaam and getting ready to get on Air Force C-130 to head back to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa in Djibouti. Our VETCAP (Veterinary Civil Affairs Project) in Tanzania is completed. We were able to positively affect about 62% of the total cattle in the Tanga district in the NE of the country. I will attach the latest UNEDITED version of my "HOA Diary" which you may find amusing.
We visited a dairy processing plant in Tanga day before yesterday and we were impressed by their progress since having started such a facility only a few years ago, and demand for dairy products being relatively low. They could use a national dairy checkoff program but they don't even have mandatory pasteurization laws yet. I'll also attach a few pictures of the last couple of days, including a very friendly dog that CPT Amanda Coenen befriended, some donkeys mixed in with the cows, and a few spectacular ticks on cows.
If they aren't attached when you get this it will be because the connection bombed.
We head to Kenya for next VETCAP on August 12, just next week.
